Sample Appeal to Insurance Company

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am writing on behalf of my daughter/son/?/name, who suffers from a debilitating disease called CRPS/RSD Complex Regional Pain Syndrome/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy.  I am trying desperately to get the appropriate treatment necessary to help him/her, but am running into constant obstacles along the way.  Because the treatments required are new and not approved yet by the FDA, you as an insurance company continually deny his/her treatment.  Let me please tell you about a typical day in my childs/?  life…  My daughter/son has days when he/she is in so much pain he/she cannot even get out of bed.  Sometimes the pain is so intense, he/she throws up.  He/She takes a minimum of 13 pills twice a day and another 7-8 throughout the day, in order to function at a minimal level.  None of his/her friends can understand the pain.  Because it is not shown other than through aleydinia (swelling) color changes and temperature changes to the extremity, there is really nothing else that shows how much pain one endures.  Believe me when I tell you sometimes he/she screams with a blood curdling scream when the pain becomes too much to endure.  Only those closest to him/her see how debilitating his/her life really is.  This past year my daughter/son missed ?days of school.  Because of this he/she has had to have home tutoring to keep  up to date.  He/She has lacked the socialization school brings to a age of person year old and the importance of that at this age.  Essentially, this disease has turned not only his/her life but her caregivers life upside down.  As a caregiver and a very concerned individual, I am writing to request that you as an insurance company take a serious look into this matter.  There are approximately 150,000 to 1 million people suffering from this disease.  They all need insurance companies to back them and at least help these individuals get the treatments they need.  Please have your company’s top advisor/supervisor look this over and get back to me.  There are several websites that go into depth about RSD/CRPS.  One of them is www.rmrsd.org.  From there you can link to numerous other sites.  I beg you to please help me and my son/daughter so that he/she can have some semblance of life.  I do not want him/her to be another tragedy of suicide, because I couldn’t get him/her and so many others the treatments they need.  Thank you for your kind consideration and approval of this.  Appropriate ending… Yours very truly or the like
